The pictures were originally shared by wildlife photographer Rafael Sandoval of Jackson Hole EcoTour Adventures (give him a follow). Rafael Sandoval was recently exploring Grand Teton National Park when he captured an absolutely awe inspiring sequence of photos of Bear 399 hunting down an elk calf to feed her own cubs. Though she has spent most of her life in close proximity to tourist activity, the bear has never had a negative run in with humans. She is 7-feet tall, weighs 400-pounds and has given birth to 16 cubs over the years. Grizzly 399 was born in 1996, and according to Outdoor Life she was given her name/number by the Yellowstone Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team who has monitored her closely for the duration of her life. Popular with tourists, вЂњBear 399вЂќ is arguably the most famous grizzly bear in the world. One particular female grizzly bear in WyomingвЂ™s Grand Teton National Park is some what of a big deal. Mama Grizzly Feeds Cubs With After Chasing Down Elk Calf It gets tense, but I donвЂ™t think that wolf wants any piece of that big olвЂ™ boy. This cycle occurred 4 times in my watching.вЂќ The wolf would slowly approach, the bear would make a slight shift in position, and the wolf would back off for awhile. To my surprise, as proven by this image, he let him get very close. It was more of a game to him to see how close the dominating bear would let him get to his kill. This wolf was alone and therefore not much of a threat to the massive grizzly. However, after a few days the wolves began to pick up on it. 791 recently took down the elk in the Yellowstone river and proceeded to bury it on the rivers edge to cover the scent of the decaying carcass. вЂњYellowstone Park grizzly bear 791 defends his elk kill from an intruding grey wolf. Grizzly Bear Fends Off Wolves To Protect Elk CarcassДЄ crystal clear video was taken at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming on September 23rd and shows a big olвЂ™ grizzly bear with its kill (an elk) going nose to nose with a grey wolf. Soon the rest of the wolf pack appears and escorts the bear into the trees.вЂќ The grizzly started standing up on his hind legs to get a better view of what was going on and then started to approach the wolves.

This grizzly was foraging in the far end of the valley when the wolves started to cross his path. вЂњI had the awesome opportunity to share this once in a life time wolf and grizzly sighting while on tour in Yellowstone today. If you get the chance to get over to Yellowstone, IвЂ™d highly recommend you go.Д«rubaker called the encounter a вЂњonce in a lifetime sighting.вЂќ I think it goes without saying, but the folks on the guided tour were more than thrilled with this kind of encounter. вЂњTheyвЂ™re just leading him away, so itвЂ™s not like theyвЂ™re attacking him, but itвЂ™s saying вЂhey, we donвЂ™t want you here.'вЂќД«asically, herding the bear away like a pack of sheep dogsвЂ¦ just a little more aggressive. Two wolves turned into three, turned into five, turned into fifteen and all if the sudden grizz has a big problem on his hands.ДЄnd while they circled him up and took turns nipping at him, our guide explains in the video that theyвЂ™re most likely just trying to escort him away from their territory and that there wasnвЂ™t any intention to kill the bear. ItвЂ™s the same thing with people they donвЂ™t want to be surprised by anything.вЂќ вЂњI think more than anything, he wants to know what it is, and whatвЂ™s going on.

YouвЂ™d think that a bear would want to run away when heвЂ™s outnumbered by a few wolves, but nope, this fella charges forward to get a better look.
